Chabad of Sherman Oaks hosts Hakhel Bat Mitzvah Club Shabbaton

SHERMAN OAKS, CA [CHI] — “When I say Bat you say Mitzvah”, “Bat” “Mitzvah” “Bat” “Mitzvah”. Those were the chants heard in the streets of Sherman Oaks this past Shabbos from the Bat Mitzvah Clubs of Chatsworth, Los Feliz, Sherman Oaks, and Simcha Monica, as they joined together for an unbelievable Shabbaton experience. For many, it was their first time observing Shabbos. No cell phones, T.V’s, or Nintendo’s, just bonding time with other Jewish girls.

The members were welcomed in by the club leaders, given special welcome packages and then went to light the Shabbos candles together. Some girls prayed for the safe return of the soldiers, while others prayed for the wellbeing of their family.

Friday night dinner by Rabbi Mendel and Shternie Lipskier was an incredible experience. During the meal, the girls sang songs and got into groups to act out the famous shabbos song “I’m Big Gedalia Goomber”.

After a delicious four course meal the girls left in high spirits. As one girl put it, “I was so inspired by the Shabbaton and the caring club leaders, I want to start keeping Shabbos and being more religious.” Singing and food wasn’t all, there were awesome Jewish games and plays that the club leaders put on.

After Havdala, the BMC girls were treated to a pizza party and ice skating trip. Everyone was sad to part with their newly found friends and the girls anxiously await the next time they can all get together again.
