Rabbi Mendy Paltiel, the director of the Chabad Jewish Center of Laguna Niguel, dedicated the kindling of the Menorah’s first light to those killed in the terror attacks in Mumbai, and emphasized the great power of a single flame, a single positive action, in dispelling the darkness. A magical glow quickly spread up the hillside as hundreds of individual candles were kindled from the Menorah’s lead flame.

Joining Rabbi Paltiel in the recitation of the blessings were the children from the Chabad Hebrew School. The highlight of the evening was the “8th Day” concert, a Chassidick rock and blues band that entertained and kept the crowd on their feet.
