Jewish Kindergarten Re-Opens in S. Petersburg

S. PETERSBURG, Russia [FJC] — The Jewish Kindergarten at Novolitovskaya Street, 7 in Russia’s northern capital has once again re-opened and it is operating under a new name – the “Gan Chaya Mushka” Chana Epshtein Kindergarten. This new title was given to the kindergarten at the encouragement of S. Petersburg businessman Yevgeniy Kupsin, who is widely known in the community and renowned city-wide for his charitable work.

Yevgeniy Kupsin has taken the kindergarten under his wing so-to-speak. Not only did take it upon himself to cover the cost of the high-quality renovations to the premises, but he also provides funding for the pre-school’s ongoing support.

“I dedicate this donation to the memory of my mother, Chana bat Rachmiel Epshtein, who passed away last year,” he expressed upon the occasion of the kindergarten’s opening. “She was a remarkable woman and an excellent children’s doctor,” he added.

This pre-school will proudly bear its new name. Moreover, according to Jewish tradition, the receipt of an additional name is a guarantee of longevity and vitality.

The inaugural ceremony was held on November 17th, one day after the anniversary (according to the Jewish calendar) of the death of Chana Epshtein. As such, in addition to the youngsters, their families and teachers, the event was also attended by many family relatives of Yevgeniy Kupsin, who had traveled here from as far away as Israel and Canada.

On this day, the many pupils of this kindergarten were quite pleased to put on a festive concert for this keen crowd.
