The dinner commenced with the inscribing of the final letters in the Sefer Torah. Guided by sofer Rabbi Henig from Beitar Ilit, Eretz Yisroel, the last letters are filled in and the Torah is ready for Hagbah, not before Rabbi Kanelsky recites “shehechiyonu” in a voice choked with tears.

The procession, with the Sefer Torah leading the way, continued into the main ballroom, where guests took part in the traditional Hakofos, with Chassidishe baal menagen R’ Avrohom Fried outdoing even himself and raising the spirits of the dancers to great heights. At the conclusion of the Hakofos, the Sefer Torah was put into the temporary shul that was set up in the hall

At 7:30 the dinner program took off, with 500 guests at attention, drinking in the speeches by the mayor and other local notables, all praising and thanking the Shluchim for their tremendous efforts and success in spreading Yiddishkeit in New Jersey.

The noted Chazzan and Shliach, Rabbi Berele Zaltzman is called to the podium and honored with reading the Rebbe’s letter to the 7th annual dinner. That year was also a “Hakhel” year, and so the letter is extremely pertinent now, as then. The entire assemblages rises in respect and listens in concentration and longing

The Bris Avrohom president, Mr. Morris Kaplan, received loud applause when he called Rabbi Kanelsky “my malach” and spoke with great admiration about the Rebbe’s Shliach.

Last on the list of speakers was the baal hasimcha himself. Rabbi Kanelsky thanked one and all for their help and support, especially his wife and staff members.

A 20 minute video presentation encapsulated 29 years of hard work and great success. Avraham Fried takes the mike and the entire crowd is ecstatic. All the guests thank Rabbi Kanelsky, who says with a smile that there is still plenty to accomplish, and everything possible will be done to give the Rebbe nachas.

Rabbi Mordechai and Shterna Kanelsky are the head Shluchim of Bris Avrohom, and carry out their Shlichus with the combined efforts of co-Shluchim Rabbi Berel and Leah Zaltzman, Rabbi Boruch and Kreina Levkivker, Rabbi Dovid and Sara Wilansky, Rabbi Mendel and Elka Zaltzman and Rabbi Yossi and Dina Kanelsky.
