The ceremony, which took place in the children’s medical clinic, was performed by Chief Mohel of Russia Yeshaya Shafit.

The members of the Rozentsvid family, whose son underwent this life-changing surgery this day, are active members of the Nizhny Novgorod Jewish community. On this occasion, the boy received the name Abraham Alexander.

That same day, three more circumcisions took place, one of them involving a 62-year-old Jew, who took on the Jewish name Arye Leib. The youngest of the three was a child of seven years, who is now Menachem Mendel, and there was also a 23-year-old young man who may now be called Reuven.

The Jewish community of Nizhny Novgorod has seen a wonderful start to the Jewish new year, in combining celebrations on the eve of Rosh Hashanah and these four individuals’ entry into the covenant of Abraham Avinu.
