PALM BEACH, FL [CHI] — The Mikvahs for the physically challenged are nearing completion, and interest is not only being expressed by residents of Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties , but also from women as far away as Georgia and Texas.

Since construction began, we have heard from cancer patients, women with multiple sclerosis, and other forms of paralysis, who are overwhelmed with our vision, and who have refrained from using a Mikvah in the past, due to the lack of a proper facility that enables them to perform this Mitzvah with the dignity and the privacy that they require. Only a handful of such Mikvahs exist today in the United States.

Mikvahs for the Physically Challenged

As of today, we are $490,780 short for this much needed project. The Project, called Mei Menachem, named after the Lubavitcher Rebbe, includes a Mikvah for women, a Mikvah for Men, a Mikvah for dishes, a steam room, 4 Prep Rooms, a hydraulic lift, and a waiting/reception room and dressing rooms. All the rooms and the outside structure are built with the provisions for the physically challenged.

Originally, the Project was going to cost $450,000, but in the last few months and weeks the price has spiraled to $748,500.The increase is due to structural problems with the foundation of our building, a major dewatering process that added three costly weeks to construction, and the decision by women in the community to make the interior breathtakingly beautiful and regal.

The interior will have an Asian feeling and spa like appearance. The Mikvahs will have a Spa Like clean line interior. The Mikvah will have a feeling of serenity and cleanliness that will give all the feeling of a spiritual experience .

Usage of Mikvah today is commonplace in suburban America and beyond. Indeed, Mikvah observance-Taharat Hamishpacha- has become a mainstream observance in the general Jewish community, shedding all the myths of the last century that Mikvah usage was popular in the “old country” but not in America. Every vibrant Jewish community today in America equates the importance of the observance of Mikvah to the observance of Passover, and other popular Jewish traditions observed by the majority of every Jewish population. See the attached link on Jewish Women to better understand and appreciate the role of Jewish Women that was observed by our Matriarchs, Sarah, Rebbecah, Rachel and Leah, and which is the inheritance of every Jewish Woman today.

As you are a leader in kindness and spreading Judaism, I am turning to you at this time to become a Founder in this long overdue project. A Founder is one who contributes $5,000 or more to this project. If you cannot become a Founder at this time, perhaps you can encourage a friend to do so. We need 98 new Founders to complete the project before Rosh Hashonah!

Please let me know that you will join in this huge Mitzvah, as soon as possible, as we hope to open the Mikvahs, G-d willing, before this Rosh Hashonah. Thank you for being there and for making a difference.

  • Looking for a change....

Why does it have to have “an Asian feeling?” The mikvah is not in an Asian country so why the association with such a place?

I remember reading about a new Chabad women’s mikvah, just a couple of years ago, being built in Palm Beach. Why is there another one being built with the exact same name? Or maybe this is the same thing? I ask this because I live near there and was wondering for personal reasons.

I think that it is absolutely fantastic to have such a special handicapped (challenged) mikvah for those in need. It shows Chabad cares about everyone!

But could someone clear up the confusion with the two mikvahs in the same city with the same name, please? (Or maybe this is the same one with additions?)

Thank you so much and yasher koach!!

Dear floridian, thanks for the help, but mikvah.org shows another mikvah in Palm Beach. (I was NOT talking about Hallendale, never mentioned that.)

The chabad mikvah is on Prosperity. There are photos of it on mikvah.org and it is gorgeous. Why are they building another one for women? I understand the necessity of a handicapped mikvah, but why 2 chabad mikvahs in Palm Beach???
