50 Women Cooking Kosher at Chabad of Strathavon

STRATHAVON, South Africa [CHI] — Under the leadership of Rebbetzin Naomi Shishler, Chabad of Strathavon’s Rosh Chodesh club has provided a wide spectrum of activities and insights for women. In honor of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, the group hosted renowned South African chef and creator of the internationally known nougat brand, Sally Williams.

Sally has given hundreds of cooking demos over the years, but admitted to being a little inexperienced with kosher cooking. She was pleasantly surprised at how many products are, in fact, kosher.

Hearing that this cooking guru would demonstrate her culinary skills, a large crowd of enthusiastic women arrived. Yuppie mothers sat alongside “yiddishe mamas”, while soon-to-be-weds joined veteran caterers, all hoping to glean some of Sally’s experience.

While some of the ladies already have kosher homes, others are still toying with the idea. All left inspired that kosher cooking is not as tough as they had imagined- and that kosher meals taste just as good as the best.

Young woman summed up why the Rosh Chodesh club is such a hit: “Thank you for the demo, it was such fun- especially for a mom who doesn’t get out much”.

Chabad of Strathavon is located in central Sandton, an affluent suburb of Johannesburg, on the edge of the city’s central business district.
