MONTREAL, Canada — Canada’s Fraser Institute named Beth Rivkah Academy of Montreal, a Jewish day school operated by Chabad-Lubavitch, as one of the top performing secondary schools in Quebec.

The school clinched the first runner-up prize in the academic achievement in excess of expectations division of the Fraser Institute’s first-ever Garfield Weston Awards. The educational research firm surveyed the school performance data of 466 secondary schools across the province over the last five years.

Karen Elkeslassy, principal of Beth Rivkah’s secular studies program, accepted the $1,000 prize, which recognizes the school’s commitment to academic excellence despite monetary hurdles, at a Frasier Institute dinner on April 22.

“The teachers, support staff and administrators from these schools are committed to their students and are working hard to improve education in their community,” said Peter Cowley, director of school performance studies at the Fraser Institute.

Bais Rivkah Montreal is the best. Thank you to Rabbi and Mrs Minkowitz for everything you do for each and every student and for the school at large. Your endless hours of work that you put into the school both academically and in extra curricular activities are so much appreciated. Bais Rivkah has instilled in me a pride and joy in being a yid and a chossid of the Rebbe. Thanks to all at Bais Rivkah who make it such a special place.

    To tmiha…

Firstly, if you read the article-the award was BESTOWED UPON the school, not BEGGED FOR by the school.

Secondly, read the reason they received the award. Yes, I think that the Alter Rebbe and every Chabad Rebbe for that matter would be proud that this school is a place where every person(Yid) is accepted-no matter what.

Maybe it would be useful if you learned some extra Tanya-especially Perek lamed-bais-instead of trying to put a negative light on something positive.

  • ANON

Dear Tmiha, get a life! stop trying to find the bad in every situation….yes the alter Rebbe WOULD BE proud of their acheivments thats beside for the fact that it is a major kiddush Hashem and Kiddush Lubavitch…..i think everyone can take a lesson from them!

  • GOOD PR!

that’s all it is. how significant! not the ‘blue ribbon’.
and by the way, the habs are out.

  • ceo

mazal tov and yashar koach to them!
besides that, people should know that there are some very special yidden there in Montreal….the kind that love you for being a Yid, not for what posuk you do or don’t say, not for how much you learn, but just because you’re Jewish. Its a place full of Ahavas Yisroel, we can learn from that, we can all improve on that
