WARSAW, Poland — Jerusalem Post reporter Greer Fay Cashman proclaimed last week's Torah dedication ceremony at Warsaw's Belvedere Presidential Palace to be “one of the most joyful events” associated with the state visit by Israeli President Shimon Peres to the Polish capitol.

Organized by Rabbi Sholom DovBer Stambler, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Poland, the event saw Peres inscribe one of the Torah scroll's last letters before it was rolled up and carried outside by Jewish communal officials.

Torah Completion Highlight of President’s Polish Visit

WARSAW, Poland — Jerusalem Post reporter Greer Fay Cashman proclaimed last week’s Torah dedication ceremony at Warsaw’s Belvedere Presidential Palace to be “one of the most joyful events” associated with the state visit by Israeli President Shimon Peres to the Polish capitol.

Organized by Rabbi Sholom DovBer Stambler, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Poland, the event saw Peres inscribe one of the Torah scroll’s last letters before it was rolled up and carried outside by Jewish communal officials.

Despite the pouring rain, a procession started with a “spirited dance through the grounds of the Belvedere Palace” and led the new Torah to the Chabad synagogue.

“In a country in which Jews had lived for a thousand years, but which in the post-Holocaust period had for too long been devoid of real Jewish life,” Cashman wrote in her April 16 “Grapevine” column, “it was a celebration of Jewish survival.” .

How can it be that such an honor is given to a man that has caused so much bloodshed in the giving of our land to the enemy. Completely neged the Rebbe’s opinion.
Ahavas Yisrael is one thing (I would put tefillin on him) but to push him forward like he is an example to all Jews is another!!!

    Terrible!!! Shame on the organizers
    !!!

yes…truly terrible…it seems like every time Shluchim do a beautiful peula some unemployed soul has to comment with some negative thoughts…

the Rebbe wrote very clearly to Alan Dershowitz why Lubavitch was honouring someone who wasnt a friend of Eretz Yisrael…to make him one!

which Rebbe’s opinion are you talking about…?

  • people

why so many shluchim in poland, wasnt the rebbe against shluchim going to poland bc its a cursed country

We are not talking about a person who isn’t a friend of E”Y, we are talking about a person who personally helped to broker Oslo etc.

The Rebbe’s opinion that I am talking about is his vehemence against giving one inch of land to anyone!!!!
