The 35-year-old Israeli woman has been missing for almost three weeks, after failing to return from a three-day trek on the Routeburn Track near Queenstown, which she started on March 25.

Search and rescue experts recommended deploying additional search helicopters, which cost thousands of dollars.

Rabbi Pinchus Feldman, dean and spiritual leader of Chabad-Lubavitch of Sydney, took on the challenge of raising the funds and was successful in this endeavour last Friday.

“The donor was Sydney philanthropist Kevin Bermeister,” said Rabbi Eli Feldman of Young Adult Chabad.

He added that more funds may be needed if the search was extended.
