Bris in Barranquilla – Colombia

Barranquilla, Colombia [CHI] — The newly built state-of-the-art Chabad House in Barranquilla was built and designed by the dedicated hard work of the head Shaliach, Rabbi Yossi Liberow. It serves as the Jewish community activity center and as a home providing a healthy Jewish environment for the growing senior community members.


For over ten years, with much success the Shaliach, Rabbi Eliyahu Swued, has served as the community Shochet and Sphardic Rabbi. Last week, with great joy, practically the entire community has gathered at the Chabad House for Rabbi and Mrs. Swued’s new born son’s Bris.

Rabbi Levi Heber, a Mohel from NY, flew in to perform the Bris. “I am truly impressed by the self sacrifice and wonderful work of these Shluchim, especially in a country that many don’t have running water” said Rabbi Levi Heber. The child was blessed and given his name Zev by Rabbi Yossi Liberow. Rabbi Chanoch Piekarski, an uncle of the child, and Shaliach in Bogota, Colombia, was honored as the Sandek. He stayed on to bless the participants as is customary in such functions.

    I have yet to find a Mohel as caring and as Baeli Batim friendly as Levi Heber – He is an increcidble resource for shluchim
    and en emese Chassidshe Mohel who can be seen 4 am trudging to the Mikveh in Crown Heights
