Purim Circus in Kharkov

KHARKOV, Ukrine [CHI] — For the first time ever – Purim in Kharkov was at the circus – on water! A packed crowd filled the circus on Thursday night to enjoy a special Purim program together with an unforgettable circus on the water. Rabbi Moishe Moskovitz opened the program, mentioning the significance of water, that a Jew cannot live without Torah like a fish in the water.

A special mention was made of uniting with Jews all over the world, especially Sderot and Yerushalayim – and that the simcha of Purim should bring to the true simcha of the Geulah. The mayor and governor sent their representatives to wish the Jewish community that they should always be victorious over Haman and that the ‘ad delo yada’ spirit of Lechaim should last the whole year. Alexander Kaganovsky – the shule president also gave over a special Purim message, and Boris Feldman in the name of his son Alexander Feldman who was the sponsor of the entire Purim event.

In addition to the clowns, acrobats, monkeys and sea lions – the megilla reading proved to end of with a ‘splash’ as Rabbi Levi Raices – who was dressed as a fisherman – was pulled in the water at the end. The Or Avner School had a special performance of the choir and orchestra.

In the foyer over 2000 Shabbat candles were distributed for women and girls – and hundreds of men and boys put on Tefillin.

The next day of Purim – Friday – was full of activities – in the high school, elementary school, kindergarten, Stars Student program – with megillah readings, mishloach manot, clowns and magicians. A large Seudas Purim took place in the synagogue and the Bochrim-Shluchim went to small cities in the periphery to spread the joy of Purim.
