NCFJE Released Time and Chabad of Forest Hills Winter Camp

NEW YORK, NY — This past week, more than 150 boys and girls from all over Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn experienced something they will never forget – the most exciting winter camp in New York.

For the first time, The Released Time Program of Greater NY, the Rebbe’s prized project, Directed by Rabbi Shazak Zirkind in cooperation with Chabad of Forest Hills, NY – Directed by Rabbi Mordechai Z. Hecht, conducted a grand winter camp in Queens. Each day the students of Released Time program enjoyed two hot delicious meals, special learning and Tefilla sessions, accompanied by hands-on learning – arts and crafts projects.

Additionally, the students enjoyed exciting trips which included the Museum of Moving Image, Bowling, Gymnastics and most exciting tour of Crown Heights which included the Matzah bakery, a Safrus Workshop – whre the children had a hands on experince writing their names on klaf with real safrus ink, and rounded off with a rally in 770 -where the children recited the 12 Pesukim and sang traditional Jewish songs and had a grand time.

For many of these students this is a unique opportunity to really explore and discover their Judaism and learn more about their Jewish roots, as during the rest of the year they spend there days in Public schools, deprived of Jewish experience and much jewish education.

As the program commenced at the end of the week long camp, the children were treated to an awesome and exhilarating juggling show performed by Hatomim Dovid Bush.

Over all, throughout the four-day winter camp, the staff and campers alike had an unbelievable time, G-d willing next year twice as big and double the fun!

Special thanks to the SJCCQ – the Sephardic Jewish Congregation and Center of Queens for hosting the winter camp in their Shul and for being tremendously generous with sponsoring the space. Additional special thanks goes to the Rego Park Jewish Center for sponsoring the use of the Gym each day, with the help of Mr. Jack Fetayeh and President Jim Parker.

Extra special thanks, and we simply could not have done it without them, goes to the Choshuve Temimim HaYekarim of Tomchei Temimim 770 – for serving as counselors and staff and working tirelessly to the success of this novel and monumental undertaking (as the list is quite long we can not mention all the names).
