PSA: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected Today

The National Weather Service and New York City Emergency Management have warned New York City residents of impending thunderstorms and heavy rain expected to hit the area Monday afternoon.

“Expect heavy rain and thunderstorms tomorrow, Monday, June 12,” the New York City Emergency Management wrote on Social Media. “Rain will start around 8 a.m., with heavy rain expected from 4-10 p.m. Nuisance flooding is possible.”

The chance of heavy rain and possible flooding is mirrored by the National Weather Service who says that “A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm.”

The NWS also noted that there will be a Southeast wind of 13 to 16 mph with rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
