Why is there alternate side parking?
here-s why
The 21st is a Hindu holiday called Diwali (lehavdil, their version of Chanukah). The 22nd through 24th are a Muslim holiday, Idul-Fitr (the end of their month of fasting, Ramadan).
The official list of days when alternate-side parking is suspended is at http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot… If you park on the street, it might be a good idea to print out the list and tape it to your dashboard.

for cleaning streets. something a must for brooklyn.
usually gets suspended for goishe holidays. so whats the occasion ?
alternate side nonsence
There is no reason to clean every side of every street two times every week. Many of the streets are perfectly clean and the cleaning truck leaves behind a mess. Many people do not have driveways and alternate side is totally unnecessary. The city gains because it provides employment to a large cleaning operation and the stupid shvartze sanitation ticketers can raise a lot of money, besides holding a job of a worthy cause.
In many other cities parking fines are 30 dollars at most. Some places its 5 dollars.
Instead of issuing 105 dollar fines, if the system was run by normal people they’d have a normal system in which a first offence would cost 5 dollars and then increase with each additional offence. But these city people are good enough for our residents as they are eligible and capable for holding their city job, so in their infinite wisdom they couldn’t come up with a decent system. Notice that many of the fines have all sorts of errors in spelling and information, which shows you what kind of people are those who take part in this worthy cause. At least they can read and write.
alternate side parking scam
And if the real purpose is for the streets to be cleaned, then why do they still give out tickets even after the cleaning truck has passed?
I say, to be fair, the only ones that should be able to give out alternate side tickets should be the cleaning truck drivers themselves. This way once the truck has passed you can park there again and not get a ticket.
I got a ticket
I got a 45 dollar ticket on sat oct 21. I thoght there was no alternate side for Diwali?! I guess I’ll make a copy of the holidays for the idiots and send it in not guilty.
I bet everyone got tickets and those that don’t know any better will pay. What a chutzpah!
grateful
Thank you for posting this Webby, you will probably save quite a few tickets
But, maybe repost this at the top of your page on Monday and Tuesday, when it really counts
