in order to be m’kaiyaim the mitzva of mishloach monos – you need to send TWO DIFFERENT, ready-to-eat foods, to at least ONE friend.
ONE gigantic fruit basket – with only fruits in it, is NOT fulfilling the mitzva at all!
P.S. The minimum requirement for each food is ONE K’ZAIYIS.

    Dear “Important Note”:
Do you really think that they are unaware of the halachic requirements? It is a fruit and VEGETABLE emporium, you know.

  • Things You Don-t Learn In Yeshiva

I know they don’t teach this in Yeshiva, but the proper word is healthful, not healthy. If the food is good for your health, then the food is healthful. It should say “healthful fruit and vegetable baskets.”

    To #1 and #5

Hmm… it seems like Halacha is not either taught in Yeshiva.

Actually there is absolutely no Halachic source for sending two different brachos. The din is to send two kinds of food which would mean that two fruit would be perfectly acceptable, in fact some poskim hold that two of the same fruit would work as well. see http://www.chabad.org/1145661
    for more info
Please help bust this misconception that is being taught in schools around the globe!

  • to #1

For your information- you need to send two different food items and they can be the same brocha. So one fruit basket with at least two different fruit items is just fine according to halacha.

To commenters 1 and 5: there is in fact no chiyuv to have two different berachos – that is a popular misconception. All you need is two different foods. An apple and a pear, for example, is a shallach manos that fulfills all halachic requirements.

And commenter 7, did they teach you how to look things up in a dictionary? I find the following at http://dictionary.reference

    3. conducive to good health; healthful: healthy recreations.

    and this note:

Healthy, while applied especially to what possesses health, is also applicable to what is conducive to health: a healthy climate; not a healthy place to be.
