So, we all used the comments to vent our anger at police at the community and the community council and we all criticized each other for talking and not doing. So here is your chance to do something!
Attend the precinct council meeting, it takes place in IS 61 located at 400 Empire Blvd on the corner of New York Ave. and it begins at 7:30. Deputy Inspector and Commanding Officer Frank Vega attends each of these meetings, and will be there to listen to suggestions and complaints from residents.
Be there or be nowhere! Your attendance will show our care and support for our community!

Well, there was a meeting and only a handful of yidden attended. Not much to show for, folks.
Inspector Vega discussed the crime statistics and the required 911 response time reporting requirements. It makes one wonder why there are so many complaints filed on crownheights.info when calls to 911, which are logged a a central office, must be answered by the precinct. The police cannnot sweep these things under the rug.

I was there:
1) While I understand that we are getting ready for Rosh Hashanah now (and had I not gone to the Ohel last night I would not have been at the meeting myself), the fact is that there were nowhere near enough of us there. Next time, let’s come out in greater numbers.
While the members of the black community who came are fine people, the fact is that most of them seem to live on blocks where we do not live and our specific concerns are therefore different. We clearly need more protection on our streets, but not enough of us seem to care – so the extra resources go to Utica, Clarkson etc.
2) Sorry, but Inspector Vega is not a demon. He seems a bit nervous at times, probably because like myself he’s only in CH one year and that really is not enough time to feel fully comfortable. While we should address our grievances to him at the meetings and at the precinct, our community should be supporting him and making him feel at home, not fighting him. He knows full well who’s committing the crimes out there, and we are on the same side.
3) Cut the cellphone use while driving, and then the cops will not have reason to ticket for that. Sorry to say, and I didn’t believe it till I saw it with my own eyes, but we are pretty bad when it comes to improper cellphone use while driving.

Moshe Rubashkin showed up at tonight’s meeting and was presented with Certificates of Appreciation by the 71st Precinct Community Council and by City Council Member Yvette Clarke, who will soon be elected to the United States Congress.

1) All community members are welcome.
2) Most of the meeting last night consisted of an awards ceremony. It could be said that you did not miss much except that the precinct really needs to see that we care enough to show up. They also need to hear what we have to say. Again, last night was inconvenient for many of us but in the future we really need to show up for these things in greater numbers.
