The new course, Explorations in Talmud: Tractate Shabbat, is geared to students without any prior Gemorah experience as well as to seasoned learners. It will include an examination of the biblical sources for the 39 melachot as well as a foundational study of underlying principles that define the term melachah.
New JLI Course Offered in Crown Heights
For the first time, JLI’s Advanced Learning Initiative, MyShiur is now available to Anash in the Crown Heights community in a special shiur presented by the course author. The new course, Explorations in Talmud: Tractate Shabbat, is geared to students without any prior Gemorah experience as well as to seasoned learners. It will include an examination of the biblical sources for the 39 melachot as well as a foundational study of underlying principles that define the term melachah.
The course covers the common melachot of Shabbat from a foundational Talmudic perspective and includes practical and modern-day applications. The lessons incorporate intellectually stimulating ideas from the Eglei Tal, Pnei Yehoshua, Rogatchover Gaon, Rabbi Akiva Eiger, R’ Chaim of Brisk and others. Every idea is is flavored with a Chassidic perspective and a practical application for one’s service of Hashem.
Each lesson is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation and students receive a complete 200pg. textbook.
The class will take place at Cong. Rayim Ahuvim, 1614 Carroll St. every Wednesday at 8-9:30pm starting this Wednesday Yud Chesvan, October 28.
Registration is almost full, but there are a few places still available.
There is a nominal fee of $50 for the textbook and course ($5 per 90 min. lesson).
