PSA: Crown Heights S’Chach Pickup

The Crown Heights JCC has once again arranged with the Forestry division of the NYC Parks Dept. to have all the S’chach picked up starting Wednesday, October 14th until the end of the week.

The Parks Dept. vehicles will be going down every block in the community to pick up the S’chach put out in front of your house along the curbside. The vehicles will be going through the community only one time on a route that has not yet been determined. Therefore we do not know which street will be first and which street second, etc.

Please have all s’chach tied up by string (please do not put the s’chach in plastic bags) and put out at the curb for these days. Please keep the s’chach along the building line until Tuesday evening.

If you miss this pickup, you may schedule your own pick up by calling 311.

In front of house as stated in the article. It is not the regular trucks and therefore they do not go through the alleys. I gut stuck with my schach thru the winter a couple of times and till the light bulb went on! IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE. Thank me later…

@shaaloh schach is not shaimos it does not have inherent essential kedusha. However, since it was used for a mitzvah it is tashmishei mitzvah and should not be treated or used in a tashmish shel bizayon a disgraceful or inferior use. As such it is better not to put it directly into the garbage, but it may be disposed of in a respectful manner. If it will be chopped up and used to beautify our parks, or used to help things grow, I think it would be highly appropriate.
