Congregation Ahavas Moische, known to everyone as The Maple Street Shul, will be holding its annual Melave Malka on March 25, 2006, Motzei Shabbos Mevorchim Nissan, Parshas HaChodesh, the 25th of Adar 5766, at 612 Maple Street at 8:30 P.M.
At this year’s Melave Malka we are aspiring to raise the final $15,000 needed for the expenses incurred this past year as a result of the crumbling of the retaining wall located just beyond our Aron Kodesh. At the time of the wall’s collapse we were desperate to save our Shul from further damage which could have been caused by ensuing erosion and from government fines that would compound the cost of repair if we would not have been able to act quickly. With hard work and tribulations – and help from the Crown Heights community – that we have come to near completion of the re-construction of the wall, Boruch Hashem.
We have saved the Shul from residual damage which the collapsed wall could have caused. Now we are seeking to completer the project and save the Shul from financial damage as our budget strains to make the final payments.
Letter To The Community From The Maple Street Shul
Dear Neighbors and Friends:
Once again we are looking to the generous people of Crown Heights to help us in our plight. We are confident that, as in the past, you will come forward and assist us in our time of need. We encourage everyone to join us at our Melave Malka; but if even if you cannot join us, please take a minute to send your tax deductible donation in the enclosed envelope.
For years we have been known as the southern most point of the community, guarding the borders so to speak. Recently young families who are not able to acquire homes in the more established areas of Crown Heights have begun to move closer to us and we are pleased to be here to serve them. After all the years that Crown Heights donors have invested in us, these newcomers are proof that the Maple Street Shul is indeed a good investment. Please don’t let us down now.
The date of our Melave Malka is the twenty fifth of Adar, the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka’s Birthday, a day when the Rebbe campaigned for all Jews to discover and celebrate their Jewish birthdays.
The Maple Street Shul is privileged to have in our regular Minyan personalities who spent time in the Rebbe’s home and will be at the Melave Malka to share with us valuable insights into the life of the Rebbetzin. We are sure you will enjoy the presentations of Meir Shlomo Junick. We will also hear from our Mashpia Rabbi Sholom Jacobson and Yossi Edelman will serve as chairman.
We will also be giving acknowledgement to our dedicated Baal Koreh, Rabbi Dr. Mordechai Jacobson, who has reliably volunteered his services for close to twenty years!
We sincerely hope to greet you at our Melave Malka. And we thank you in advance for your generous donation. Your donation is tax deductible and can be sent to: Congregation Ahavas Moische Eli Blachman 682 Lefferts Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11203.
Sincerely,
Eli Blachman, President
