CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — The intersection of Brooklyn Ave and Lefferts Ave has turned into a big source of income for the City yet again, as unsuspecting drivers are continuing to make the illegal right turn from Brooklyn Ave onto Lefferts Ave.
Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM then again between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM it is illegal to make that right turn. Regardless if it’s a school day or not.
DRIVERS BEWARE! TAKE NOTE!

This is not a BAD thing at all, and we should not bash the city for implementing SAFETY in our community.
bais rivkah studant
in the morning and afternoon there are tons of girls walking across the street and if you constantlyahve cars turning in it can get dangerouse! but they should make that sign bigger!
ch res
also remember that we havent had much crime sorry no crime for the past few weeks and if this is the cost then maybe we should just start being more carefull and obey the laws isnt it the least we can do to show our appreciation
im not one of those you do the crime you
do the time but i agree this and school buses yid or goy you shoud get a summons i see way to many pepole passing busses at full speed when there flashing red lights are on and im sure the yidishe busdrivers from this neighberhood can tell you how many pepole do this pepole please these are our kinder.

Why on non school days
TO ABBA

CROWN HEIGHTS!!!!
LISTEN TO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Annoyed
Ye well this summer they would stand there, one day they gave over 20 tickets
chrup!
the sign isnt very clear. i always thought it was referring to making a right turn from lefferts unto brooklyn. they should definitely make it more prominent and place it somewhere else.
gittyg.
yup. i was one of those who got a ticket in the summer, thinking school is out so it probably doesnt apply…have to go plead ticket in march..why is law in effect during summer?
Resident!
It is sick that when we have no school the cops still give out tickets, the cops should not be allowed to give out tickets when there’s no school!
Sheesh
How many times do we have to re-hash this topic? We all know the sign is there by now, so anyone who ignores it & gets caught (like I did ages ago) has to pay the fine. So OBEY THE LAW!! It’s really quite simple.
If we want to attack the cops, can we please move onto something else?
SOLUTION
SMARTEST IDEA IS TO JUST MAKE A LEFT DOWN MALBONE INSTEAD OF BROOKLYN, AND GO STRAIGHT DOWN LEFFERTS WITHOUT HAVING TO GO OUT OF THE WAY.
yoyo
i know I shouldn’t make the turn, but sometimes I’m tempted, instead of going all the way around for no reason…
I know cops hide there since I work in beth rivkah, so it keeps me from making the turn, but honestly, it’s for the safety of the kids….I’m writing this cuz i’m sure many are aware, yet choose to make the turn regardless.
Got a ticket there
The sign is too small and too high, in addition, in the afternoon sun, it is very difficult to notice.

FACT IS U CANT MAKE A SIGN THAT SAYS NO TURNING ON……. BUT U CAN TURN ON……. OH AND ALSO NOT ON….. BUT YES ON…. THE ONLY COMPLAINT WHICH MAKES SENSE IS TO MOVE THE SIGN OR MAKE ANOTHER ONE A LITTLE EARLIER AND MORE NOTICABLE

i think everyone in crown heights should give up their cars and use public transportation. This way they will never be able to give any of us tickets ever again! and besides, riding on the train you can daven and learn chitas which you cant do while you are driving!!

In a related issue, parents sending kids with older siblings to school need to speak to them about walking WITH them, not ahead of them, particularly when CROSSING AT THIS CORNER. I have seen too many kids run after older siblings when the light has already changed. Totally dangerous!
Stand Corrected
To Solution:
Malbone is not the street to make a left onto instead of Brooklyn, you mean Balfour.
To worried observer:
where’s the crossing guard to watch those little kids running after their older siblings?
bus driver
the police should be there at that time when kids are around not only when kids not around.
and the comunity should also respect all the laws about school and school buses i see to many cars going by with out even slowing down when the buses have there red lights flashing they dont need to have a stop sign all they need is flashing lights
Any Chesedesters out there
Have The Girls do a project to make a nice big colorful lamenated poster which will remind everyone and save yidden from getting tickets. That would be a real chesed project. Just don’t put your name on it so they can’t traice it back and give you a ticket for hanging upa sign.
Where are the cops???
Most of the cops that came to patrol Ch since the attack on Balkany left, where are the cops I don’t see them anymore???
ELI
THE SIGN IS IN WRONG PLACE!
IT SHOULD BE ON CORNER THAT IS BEFORE THE INTERSECTION.
OTHERWISE YOU WOULD SEE IT ONLY AFTER YOU GO DOWN BROOKLYN AVE, BUT NOT WHEN YOU MAKE RIGHT TURN! !
I almost got ticket over there last summer becouse I just didn’t notice the sign. I was driving there for couple of years but never saw it since I normally would make a right on leffers and would not go down the Brooklyn Ave
One day nice black guy stopped me on the corner, making me aware of the sign and the cups that were ticketing there everybody.
THEY MUST PUT SIGN ON THE CORNER ACROOSS BEIS RIVKA!
crown heights resedent
I am sorry it is all Bais Rivka falt Why can’t they put it by Oholi Torah that is a busy street and terrebely dangrous.Children are always crossing there when it is a 6 lane street.
It is very inconvenent for peaple who live right over there on Brookly Avenue btn Empire and Lefferts and you are in a rush to get to work in the morning and have to go ALL around thats not fare for us TRY THAT BY EASTEN PKWAY.
I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS FOR THE SAFTY FOR OUR CHILDREN BUT IF YOU ARE DOING IT OVER THERE THAN DO IT BY ALL SCHOOLS
mommy/bubby
Oh, Mr. Bus Driver, you’ve opened yourself & the other BD to comments now!! Before I start, though, I do want to thank many of you for driving these precious neshomas safely every day. I know you GENERALLY take good care of the children. However, these are my complaints based on MY experiences:
1. WHY DO SOME OF YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO SMOKE WITH LITTLE KIDS ON YOUR BUS??? yes, I’m shouting!
2. You don’t let these kids sit down before you’re zooming off to the next stop. Why? Do you get a bonus for early delivery?
3. A few lousy honks, & you’re off again @ high speed. Meanwhile, Mom/kid are dashing down the steps & sometimes you don’t wait. When you do, it’s with loud sighs, mutterings, and dirty looks making Mom feel stupid. Again, what’s the rush?
4. You don’t ALWAYS (be honest!) put on your flashing lights & activate your stop sign so drivers still go past your bus while kids are getting on & off.
5..And last but not least…what about the bullying that goes on on the bus? You can hear singing & complain about that. If a candy wrapper is dropped by the back seat, you’re aware of THAT!! But when my grandson is bullied on the bus, where are you then? And where are the monitors (if there are any)?
I’ve put my kids & grandchildren on the buses for years & I’ve seen all this more times than I can count. So I suggest you BDs keep quiet if you don’t want to hear these complaints. Turning at the wrong place is dangerous. So are these behaviors. I wonder what other people have to say? Probably very little, parents seem to accept this treatment. I don’t know why, they are quick to complain to the schools about everything else.
get with the program!
this law is for the safety of OUR OWN children (a girl was hit by a turning car a few years ago)
The same goes for red lights blinking on buses – those are OUR OWN children getting on and off of the buses! so it takes a few minutes longer if you travel during those hours – count that into your cheshbon of travel time and be happy that our kids are safe

The police department knows the sign isn’t so visible (it’s on the light pole across the intersection whereas normally a traffic sign would be on the traffic pole, and the second sign is on the left side of the street). If someone were to get a ticket for making the illegal right by a passing police car, that wouldn’t be so much of a piss off… the fact that a police car sits there during the violation hours shows that they know the sign is faulty and ultimately gives them the means to fill their ticket issuance quota.
CH
The cops don’t care about catching criminals all they care about is ticketing us, START CARING FOR MAKING CH A SAFE PLACE FROM ALL THE CRIMINALS BEFORE TICKETING US, WE HAD ENOUGH.
fix the issue, there wont be problems
Where is our holy Vad haklala to get the transportation department to put up signs where people can see them??????
