Crown Heights Businessmen, Shuls, and Askonim Show Support For Sheba Medical Center

Representatives from Crown Heights businessmen, Shuls, and Askonim gathered at JLI on Monday afternoon to hear the heroic story of Staff Sgt. Matan Falach and to show support for the Sheba Medical Center.

Rabbi Yaacov Behrman of the Jewish Future Alliance opened the program by expressing gratitude to JLI for providing the space and requesting a moment of silence for all those lost since Oct 7th.

Beth Grafman, Eastern Region Development Director of American Friends of Sheba Medical Center, delivered a slideshow presentation on the history of Sheba Medical Center and its crucial role in Israel during the war. Following the slideshow, she introduced Matan, who shared his story.

Staff Sgt. Matan Falach was at home on Oct 7th and was deployed to Hebron immediately after the war to protect the communities. Shortly thereafter, he was sent to Gaza and was part of the first unit to enter. While stationed in a building guarding a group of Hamas prisoners, he witnessed an armed terrorist approaching his unit. He ran to warn them and was shot. Despite sustaining a bullet wound to his hip, Matan managed to alert his men of the imminent danger. The audience was deeply moved by Matan’s bravery and gained insight into how IDF soldiers respond to combat situations. They also learned about the vital role played by the Sheba Medical Center’s Return-To-Life rehabilitation unit in aiding soldiers’ recovery.

Shaya Gordon, who organized the visit, spoke emotionally about meeting Matan in the hospital after he was injured and expressed admiration for his bravery and humility.

Sheba Medical Center, the largest and most prominent medical center in the Middle East, continues to set the standard for excellence in care. Newsweek has recognized Sheba as one of the world’s best hospitals for five consecutive years, along with naming it as one of the best smart hospitals and a leader in gastroenterology, neurology, and cardiology. Sheba’s commitment to global healthcare combines clinical excellence, medical innovation, and international collaboration to benefit patients worldwide.
