Hakhel Hachnasa L’cheder at Lubavitcher Yeshiva
Over 80 children were introduced to cheder in United Lubavitcher Yeshivah’s Hakhel Hachnasa L’cheder event, “arainfirenish.”
The Hakhel Hachnasa L’cheder took place on the Rebbe Maharash’s birthday and included a Siyum on the Rambam.
Fathers and mothers arrived with their young sons wrapped in talleisim. The Hachnasa L’cheder was led by renowned mechanech Rabbi Chaim Levi Goldstein, author of the comprehensive Hachnasa L’cheder Guide. Rabbi Goldstein explained that this Minhag is a Segula for a child to grow up to be a Talmid Chochom.
Each child was presented with his own inscribed honey cake, an egg with special pesukim, and the Sha’ar Blatt of Tanya with honey. An interactive slideshow helped the children find each letter of the Aleph Beis in their page of Tanya. The boys licked the honey from the letters, introducing them to the sweetness of Torah. The children were told that Malach Michoel threw candies, and then each boy got to eat his delicious honey cake and egg.
The event ended with fathers and sons dancing, and a special photo station for families to take pictures.
“It was an unforgettable experience filled with Kedusha and Nachas,” was how Rabbi Y. Simpson, Menahel, described this event.
The magnificent event was arranged by Rabbi Chaim Mayzlesh and Rabbi Yisroel Langsam, in memory of Rabbi Shmarya Katzen OBM, who ran the Hachnasa L’cheder in Lubavitcher Yeshiva for decades.
Old timer
80 boys were INTRODUCED to cheder after being there for almost a year or longer?
They already know all the alef beis, and can read already.
Boys used to turn 3, got their first haircut, (leaving very short hair and long peyos), yarmulke and tzitzit and went to school for the first time that very day.
Please explain why/when the change happened.
