Kollel Tours Mikvah Mei Chaya Mushka

Last week, members of Kollel Anash of Crown Heights and the Rosh Kollel Rabbi Michoel Lerner, took a Halachic tour of Mikvah Mei Chaya Mushka of Crown Heights. The Mikvah is located on Troy Avenue at the corner of Lefferts Street. The Kollel familiarized themselves with the intricate requirements of building a Mikvah and especially a Chabad Mikvah.

Mikvah Mei Chaya Mushka is unique, as it also has an Otzer Mei Geshomim – a reserve storage tank of rainwater.  This gives the possibility to change the water on a regular basis (without any downtime for the Mikvah). The building of an Otzer is per the directives and guidelines of the Rebbe Rashab, when he constructed the original Chabad Mikvah in Rostov, Russia over 104 yrs. ago.

Mikvas that do not have an Otzer Mei Geshomim, have to be shut down and wait for new rainwater. This can take weeks or months to refill the Mikvah with new rainwater.

Elozor Raichik, a world-renowned expert in Mikvas, led the tour. 

Elozor Raichik was the Halachic consultant during the construction of Mikvah Mei Chaya Mushka.

The Kollel also climbed up the steep ship ladder on the side of the building onto the roof to have a better view.

The Kollel members were very grateful for this tour. The practical knowledge they received will be beneficial in the near future when they take working positions as Rabbonim in communities around the globe.
