Plans for Mikvah in New Remsen Village Building

The growing community of East Flatbush/Remsen Village is making plans to build a mikvah in their new community building.

A few months ago, the community entered contract to purchase a spacious building on the corner of Remsen Ave. and Clarkson Ave. as a shul and community center. The building will serve all the needs of the community, also including a simchah hall, separate libraries for children and adults, and a children’s play area.

The building will also house two mikvaos, one for men and another for women. Plans are underway to choose a suitable location for these mikvaos within the building and prepare the necessary groundwork, so that work can begin on this project immediately upon closing.

Last week, Rabbi Avraham Michoel Halpern, rov of the French Hill neighborhood in Yerushalayim, and Rabbi Binyamin Jacobs, chief rabbi of Holland, visited the building. They inspected the site and helped determine a suitable spot where the mikvaos can be located and discussed some of the relevant technicalities.

Having a mikvah in the area is essential for the community’s growth. As of now, the closest men’s mikvah and women’s mikvah are each a twenty- to thirty-minute walk away, posing significant difficulties on Shabbos and Yom Tov. Ensuring there is a mikvah in close walking distance will inevitably attract more families to the area, helping extend and bolster the Rebbe’s shechunah.

A fundraising campaign was launched two months ago to help raise funds for the new building. While a large percentage of the needed amount has been raised, a significant amount is still lacking. Funds will also be necessary to construct the mikvah.
