Photo Gallery: The 13th Annual 71st Precinct Parade
Brooklyn, New York — For the 13th year the 71st Precinct held its annual parade and picnic day here in Crown Heights. The parade consisted of Member of the Service from various departments such as the Highway Division, Auxiliary, Explorers, Cadets and the Mounted Unit.

Also partaking in the parade was FDNY, Crown Heights Hatzalah Division and marching bands.

Okay, this look looks really lame…
There is hardy anyone watching the old farts drive by in their 1988 vans and trucks…
Lame lame lame…
yg
for the empty streets – no crowd the police had no problem closing the street, yet for the lag bomer parade they made problems – keep the pictures for the next time this issue is raised!
CHer
I wonder if they had any trouble from the city to close off the streets… and why didn’t they share this the community (I noticed hatzallah was there, so i guess the question is why didn’t our community reps share it with the community)…
no name
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too funny
If you’re a department of incompetents, they throw you a parade — makes sense to me — NOT!!!!! What’s next, “Hug a Mugger Day” ????

Signs
I did not see one sign about this, I would of come if I would know about it because this shows our support to the community.
Block it off for us to
For 300 police they can block off the entire Empire but for 15 thousand Jews they can’t.
Protect us!
If the cops were by the parade who was protecting Crown Heights I bet that was the chance for all the criminals to do their dirty work & not get caught.
Mad Resident
Oh for this stupid party they shut the street but for Lag Beomer they won’t
Moshie
Ya I agree with “yg” the next time we need to close the street for something we should show this article to the police.
It’s nuts how the police could close the street with practically no crowed at all.
Fishy
Why could they get a permit but we can not, something smells fishy about this.
Tell us if you want us
Since when does the 71st Precinct expect us to come to the parade if they did not give us any notice about it.
very concerned Jewish crown heights neig
I see, as usual, our Jewish support was shown.. Isn’t it ashame that the precinct doesn’t support its Jewish neighbors.Just call them and see what their response is!!!!
very concerned Jewish crown heights neig
If our Jewish community leaders do not wake up and smell the roses… We will be in huge trouble here! Why do we march with them when they treat us so indifferently? I never saw such a poor excuse for police!! This precinct SUCKS!!!!!
aa
so now i know what the noise was …..look on the bright side to all u upset ppl atleast it was harmless
me
had they advertised on crownheights.info I am sure there would have been more people! :-)

I have refrained, for quite some time from attemting to post a response here on Crown Heights dot info. This site TRULY has the potential to provide a service to the Community BEYOND reporting incidents (not always accurately) and providing pictures. I have contacted the author WEBBY NUMEROUS times in an attempt to post “news worthy” police realted information to the Lubavitch Community, knowing how many check this site daily. I haven’t yet been given that opportunity. NOW, as for this article…… I needed to set the record straight. I, PERSONALLY reached out to a LARGE number of high ranking members of the Lubavitch Community in an attempt to not only get the word out, but get Lubavitchers involved. In addition, I personally distributed HUNDREDS of flyers advertising this event in front of 770. I know of a class of 8th grade Jewish students who posted and distributed NUMEROUS flyers along Kingston Avenue, advertising this event. They deserve and were given, by me, via their teacher, MUCH thanks and praise for assisting me and the Police Dept. NEXT, a “PARADE” only requires an application thru the Police Dept local precinct. A parade is just that a MOVING function where only a BRIEF closure of a street takes place until it passes. (Keep in mind all Torah Processions “Parades” the 71st Precinct does. Not once has anyone asked what they needed to do to apply, but TOLD us what they were doing and I never questioned it. This Parade was followed by 4 hours of free food (YES KOSHER), free amusement rides and entertainment. The parade’s purpose as outlined in the posters, flyers and my personal conversations with Lubavitcher’s, is to promote and foster better community relations, as well as police community relations.
It’s sad that there are so many wonderful people in the Lubavitch community, where I’ve served for over 20 years, even while it was easy for me to transfer, but didn’t, yet NO ONE is ever able to reach out to the police for help BEFORE becoming a victim of crime, YET, has NO problem COMPLAINING, quite often wihout ACCURATE facts.
I am here for YOU, to HELP you in ANYWAY I can, BUT, I can only “Lead the Horse to Water”. Sgt Bobby Troise, CPU SGT, 71 Precinct

To the comments “Protect Us!” I never thought of that how can the police go to a parade instead of protecting us.
moishe
to all of you idiots out there, this was a parade for the entire community , they had kosher & non-kosher food, this was advertised on the flyer, if we want support from our precint, than we should support them in bringing the communities together. Foe the record this parade was different than Lag B’omer, in this parade there was not supposed to be spectators just marchers.
MJ
The comments about the street closures are off base since the Lag B’Omer parade closed EP for hours whereas this was a rolling street closure of smaller streets with a couple blocks closed for a few minutes at any one time.
LIFE TIME CROWN HIEGHTS MEMEBER OUTRAGED
I AM SHOCKED AND VERY HURT. I HAVE BEEN COMING TO THE THE ANNUAL 71ST PRECINCT PARADE SINCE IT STARTED(NEVER MISSED ONE) THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR THAT THERE WAS NO ADVERTISEMENT IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY. I GO SHOPPING ON ALMOST EVERY STORE ON KINGSTON AVENUE AND WALK THE STREET UP AND DOWN KINGSTON AVENUE, AND HAVE NOT SEEN ON FLIER ANYWHERE. I DONT KNOW WHO IS IN CHARGE OR WHOEVER IT WAS DID NOT DO A SINGLE THING TO IMFORM US OF THIS PARADE!!!!! I FOR SURE WOULD HAVE GONE. I HOPE NEXT YEAR A NEW COMMITY WILL ADVERTISE THIS EVENT.
