200 Students Celebrate Chanukah Together at GWU
On the second night of Chanukah, close to 200 students braved freezing temperatures to join “Chanukah on Kogan,” at the George Washington University.
The event was MC’d by Bracha Meisel who, together with Sophia Brener, is co-president of Chabad Colonials. Nolan Hausler shared his reflections on Chanukah. Finally, Rabbi Yudi Steiner spoke of the Rebbe’s message, how the cold and dark winter brings out the greatest opportunity for light.
The candles were lit by representatives of Student Alliance for Israel at GW and the Jewish fraternity ZBT.
“Of course, latkes, donuts, coffee and hot apple cider were on hand to help with the Chanukah celebration. Note to self: bring more of everything next year! In short: Jewish pride rang loud and proud at GW this year,” said Rabbi Steiner.
The event capped off a record breaking semester for Jewish life at GW. Legendary Shabbos dinners with an average of 80 students, often exceeding 100. Weekly programs like Sinai Scholars and Cookies and Conversation and monthly programs like Girls’ Club and Chesed volunteering with the Friendship Circle of MD & DC run by Rabbi Mendel and Chana Kaplan. Just as the Chanukah flame shines brightly in the night defying the odds, the fire of Torah and Chassidus shines brightly at the George Washington University.
Absolutely Beautiful
It’s amazing what the Steiner’s have accomplished with their hands tied. Can you imagine what will happen when they are able to work freely?
Incredible!
