100 Years: Krinsky Family Begins New Sefer Torah
On Sunday evening, friends and family gathered at the home of Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Krinsky, the Rebbe’s trusted secretary and chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, for the commencement of the writing of a Sefer Torah.
Rabbi Krinsy commissioned the new Sefer Torah in memory of his parents, Rabbi Shmaya and Eta Krinsky, OBM. It is slated to be completed next summer on their 100th anniversary.
The Sofer, Rabbi Moshe Klein, inscribed the first few passages of the new Sefer Torah on a blank sheet of parchment. The extended family then raised their glasses for L’chaim and sat down for a Chasidishe farbrengen.
Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky was a respected Shochet in Boston, where he was an acquaintance of Rabbi Y.B. Soleveichik. He stood out even among the frum Jewish community for steadfastly refusing to remove his beard.
In the year 1914 he married Eta Aronoff, and together they raised their nine children: Rabbi Zev Aryeh, Rabbi Moshe Eliezer, Rabbi Yosef Dov, Rabbi Pinchas Shmuel, Rabbi Chaim Yehuda, Mrs. Rivka Hecht, Mrs. Chava Devorah Shusterman, Mrs. Nechama Goodman and Mrs. Yocheved Goldberg.
Reb Shmaya passed away in the summer of 1963; his beloved wife, Eta, passed away four year later in the summer of 1967.
