Bunks 8 and 9 of Camp Gan Israel in Parksville, NY enjoyed a unique ‘cooking session’ with Head Counselor Ari Raskin. Using different types of colorful candy, they made their very own ‘worms in a cup’ and sushi.

amazing
hearing and seeing great reports from CGI NY & CGI Detroit, for some reason we are not hearing anything from the other camps.

I would not want my kids eating that at all. you almost need a license to serve sugar, yeccch
i’m sure theres other ways to do a fun sushi project, i was a counselor once, theres many ways to do project ideas
Imagine
Imagine how much better it would be if they had made real sushi.
The kids would have been doubly excited, it’s healthier, it’s cheaper(!), and it’s great for kids to learn that cooking is not hard.
Kids get such a feeling of accomplishment when they know how to cook something – why replace that with a candy concoction?
Horrified
So you take a sushi, which is semi healthy, and replace it with pure sugar.
As if this is what our kids need now!!!??
Adorable
Wish they would use healthier options …So cute but Im sure the kids wouldve been just as happy making regular sushi :)
Come on its camp...
Its camp let them enjoy themselves its only once a year, just make sure they brush their teeth!!:)
Let 'em eat cake
I’m sure that’s all they serve all day…candy and soda. Puh-leeeeez!
What we all need is more criticism of cute camp activities done by the most amazing camp in the world.

so typical
I view the photos, and see children enjoying themselves.
learning new things experiencing techs that they usually wont,
However,
every comment here has a negative notation, always easy to ridicule and point fingers,
to my personal objections here,
granted children should watch their intake of sweets, if indeed they do all year round, as you proclaim yourself as great parents, the little time in summer camp, indulging in a bit of sweets, wont hurt them as much as you say,
at summers end, well, back to the carrots and fruits, a visit to the dentist,
…….. all is fine,
jeez live a bit, allow your children to escape the claustrophobic box their in all year.
bless you all
make real sushi
At our local gan israel the kids made real sushi and brought home a big plate of it to share with family – now that was impressive. Why teach kids that junk food is ok? And will the camp pay the families’ dentist bills?
Mother
I think it’s a great idea. This is a very active camp the boys are always playing sports and running around. I’m not a great fan of candy throughout the year but I think it’s a GREAT one time camp activity and I only wish I saw a pic of my own son. The boys all looks so happy I wish there was a third session!
