Amid the chaos and panic following the airliners slamming into the two World Trade Center towers, men and woman answered a higher calling – instead of running away, they turned and ran towards the burning building in desperate attempts to rescue those trapped in the burning inferno. Among those brave men was a band of Shomrim volunteers from Crown Heights.
Among those who participated in the effort were: Gadi Hershkop, Lelly Hershkop, Shloime Fisher, Shloime Klein, Mendy Brayer, Boruch Marmulszteyn and Zevi Laine.
These photos were taken over the course of the first two nights following the terror attacks, which claimed nearly 3,000 lives, and depict the carnage through the eyes of those who rushed in after the buildings came down.

the tears still fall when reading these articles and/or looking at these pictures. may all those who were killed in the twin towers be ‘gutte better’ for all of klal yisroel. may all those who were there and helped, thank you from all of us. tizku l’mitzvos. a special thank you to the c.h. contingency.

I can’t even stand the thought of someone burning to death, in the most rapid helpless state. Damn those enemies. Damn them. May they eternally burn in H, forever and ever. I wish when I go to heaven, I will witness them burning down there and screaming for help!! But alas, it won’t come for them.
