On Sunday, smiling parents and proud rebbeim gathered at Darchai Menachem to watch the school’s very first talent show. Practice had started weeks before, as ten boys threw themselves into the hobbies they loved, excited and nervous to show their friends and family what they were capable of doing.
From playing instruments, to break dancing and magic tricks, the afternoon showcased the boys’ many talents and abilities. “It was fantastic,” said principal and event organizer, Rabbi Moshe Kamensky. “The kids were beaming and on their game. The rabbis were inspired and had such nachas that the kids had the courage and commitment to perform.”
In a world where we don’t meet success everyday, it was amazing to see the great big grins the performers wore, clearly enjoying enthusiastic applause from their peers, families, and mentors.
For the grand finale, Isser Brikman performed a dramatic fire poi, a traditional fire dance, on the school’s rooftop. Taking “the show must go on” to a whole new level, Isser wasn’t going to let the heavy snow that had fallen the day before stop him – he spent two hours shoveling the snow to ensure there would be adequate room to perform in front of the large crowd.
The students weren’t the only ones having a good time. “We’re so happy to see that he had a chance to express his talent,” said Mrs. Zwiebel, whose son, Shimshon, performed on the violin. “Darchai is a very good school, and with patience and understanding they bring out the potential of each student.”
This was just one of many events the school has in its extra curricular programming: A Mishkan and Crafts Fair is scheduled for April, followed by a Science Fair in June.
