Montreal Greets Torah in Memory of Rabbi Wenger

Over 1,000 people came out on Sunday to greet a new Sefer Torah written in memory of Rabbi Eliezer Wenger OBM.

Rabbi Wenger, author of of halacha and chinuch books and a long time educator in Montreal, passed last year, in Adar of 5770.

A school teacher for over 40 years, Rabbi Wenger taught thousands of boys, girls and adults as rabbi of Congregation Oneg Shabbos in Montreal.

The new Torah was greeted by his family and friends with singing and dancing in the Montreal streets, despite the cold weather.

    Words can not describe the warmth shown from the community by coming out in the snow and below freezing temperatures to take part of this momentous occasion. It was my privilege to be part of it.

    what an event! yiddishkeit doesn’t cease to boggle my mind. hachnosos sefer torah – so incredibly joyous, to commemorate a passing that was so incredibly tragic.
    may the family know of simchas only. Rabbi Wenger is sorely missed by all family and friends.
