Kinus Hashluchos 5771: Behind the Scenes

It’s 9:00am on a rainy December morning and Rabbi Schneor Nejar is already entering his second meeting of the day. Surrounding the conference table are members of the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau who are there to discuss security precautions for the upcoming Kinus Hashluchos at Lubavitch World Headquarters, which is expecting some 2,800 women from over 70 countries.

“It takes more than six months of planning and coordination by the vaad of shluchos and an extensive group of volunteers to see the Kinus come to fruition,” says Nejar, Conference Coordinator. “With the increasing number of shluchos expected this year, the planning needs to be exact.”

Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Chairman of the International Conference, says the organizers pay meticulous attention to even the smallest details. “The women’s conference brings it’s own unique challenges. From babysitting to food presentation to security to heated buses to special care packages; every aspect of the Kinus is designed to cater to the specific needs of each shlucha.”

Conference coordinators have paid special attention to the location of the seminars. “In consideration of the weather and the needs of the shluchos, the majority of workshops will take place under one roof,” says Nejar.

Housed in Chabad House HQ (Merkos Suite 302), the Kinus Office is a hub of feverish activity. From there, Kotlarsky consults with a dedicated group of shluchos on a daily basis to ensure everything befits the shluchos.

“We have invested a tremendous amount of time and resources to make this event a reality,” says Conference Director Rabbi Mendel Kotlarsky. “With registration beginning tonight, anticipation is mounting for what will surely be a memorable weekend.”
