Good Middos Builds Bridges
United Lubavitch Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway holds first annual Popsicle bridge building competition for grades 3-8.
This project was inspired by the Hayom Yom of Tes-Vov Kislev.
The Reb. Shmuel Schrage middos program took it on to bring students from all parts of New York together to connect and work as a team to make the best connection. The bridge that can support the most weight wins a pie of pizza.
First place winner weighing in at 138lb before the bridge exploded was made by the team work of Menachem Mendel Zulauf, Yosef Tovshtein, Sholom Dovber Grosh and Dovid Levy. The bridge work has solidified a great friendship between all teams.
With the Bais Hamedrash packed from wall to wall, with students, Parents and friends, the program opened up with an inspirational speaker, distinguished educator, and the driving force behind the โThe Reb. Shmuel Schrage Middos Program.โ Mrs. Rose Schrage. Mrs. Rose Schrage honored us just days after the 35th yartzite of her husband, our late assistant principal and long time adviser to the Mayor of New York, Reb Shmuel Schrage OBM with motivational goal setting talk in the world of good middos.
Then the moment we have all been waiting for, the bridges were tested. Webbing attached and pounds of iron weights dropped in to a milk crate supported by the bridge, 5 lbs at a time. The excitement was palatable. Pound after pound the bridges built by 8-13 year olds supported in some cases more then double there own weight. Everyone had an incredible time, refreshments were served, parents and children went home together, after spending quality time together at yeshiva.
Proud, former student
Very cute and nice to see projects encouraging teamwork in Yeshiva, and not only learning ‘strictly by the book’- pun intended.
Keep it up, ULY!
