Over 200 Shake Lulav at 55 Year-Old Sukkah Mobile

At the boardwalk alongside the river plate, located in Montevideo, Uruguay, stands a 1955 Ford F100 plastered with “Happy Sukkot” signs and covered with palm tree leafs.

The “third world Sukkah Mobile” is ready to greet any Jews that want to say the blessing on the lulav and etrog or grab a bite under the sukkah.

This Sunday, over the course of a few hours, this humble Sukkah, together with Rabbi Eliezer Shemtov, hosted a few hundred by passer Jews – from toddlers to grandparents, college students to businesmen, tourists to locals and everyone in between, who joined in this beautiful unique mitzvah of saying the blessing over -and shaking- the lulav.

“Third World Sukkah Mobile” should be removed from this article, as is degrading an unnecessary. Besides, according to the latest Human Development Index Numbers Chile, Argentina and Uruguay each have a higher Human Development Index than places like Poland or Russia. Would the author have referred to a Russian Sukkah Mobile as Third World? I doubt it.
Most importantly, though I am NOT from Uruguay (I am from Chile), I have been to Montevideo and I can assure you that it is a beautiful city, and have also met Rabbi Shemtov, who is a very kind and pious man. Yishar Koach to R’Shemtov and his family.
