Uman through the Lens of a Non-Jewish Photographer

Ilya Varlamov, a non-Jewish photographer in Ukraine set out and captured the scenes near the grave site of Rabbi Nachman Meuman where approximately 50,000 Jews from around the world spent the days of Rosh Hashana.

    #1 and #5, this is not the time for comparison, it is aseres yamei hatshuva, it is the time to look at other jews and thank HaShem for their deveikus whatever derech they are. 770 is beautiful, uman is only once a year.

    What’s wrong with u guys? Talking badly about these jews. You are just angry because they have a better way of life then most of you will ever have. They are beautiful people. Look at past pics of lubavitchers (Lag B’omer or simchas bais hashouayva) and notice how many of you are smiling (almost none). Now look at these pics, all these people are happy. I think your just angry because they know how to have a good time and you don’t.

    I’m slightly disturbed at the lack of ahavas israel in these comments. Lubavitch or not they’re still Jewish and they are serving Hashem through a different form of Chassidus.

    What is up with the guns?! The picture with the man aiming into the brush with two boys at his side is quite disturbing!
    If the Media got their hands on this picture there is no telling of what this can do to harm the Jewish image.

    Anyone looking at someone dancing without hearing the music that the person is dancing to, will look upon the dancer as strange. We don’t hear their music and therefore look upon them as strange. The rest of the world does not hear Chabad’s music and look upon us as strange. The mission of Chabad is to teach others to hear the music.

    the original website doesnt have such positive commentraries describing the experience. even though i’d like to believe otherwise, unfortunately some of these people do chilul HaShem there, and some of it is captured on camera..

    Doniel Gold from Miami Beach was there this year and said it was a fantastic expierance. Mr Gold said that the place was so full of ahavas yisroel and love for another Jew. Anyone who has never been there, according to him, SHOULD NOT COMMENT. Mr Gold said that he hasnt seen that much ahavas yisroel in one place since the Rebbe was in 770 (PHYSICALLY. ANd nothing in those pictures was a chillul Hashem.

    like everything in life, you have to take the good with the bad and what your looking for , you normally find.If your looking for kedusha your going to find it and if not well….

    I personally have no problems for Breslover’s going to Uman,They are riding on R”Nachman’s shoulders.Its his bekasha and its in his zechus.

    As for our own , whilst not belittling the Inyan , i am reminded of why or what the Alter Rebbe replied to the helike Baditshver , why we dont say vshomoro before shmonie esaray on yom tov or shabbos.

    Its true , that at the time , its a big yarid( market place in the heavens ) when we say it , but who says you have to attend every yarid??

    In other words ,whilst the inyan is a good one , its not our one or one that our Holy Rebbe’s suggested.That’s enough of a deciding factor , in my books.

    Breslav has a similar problem to Chabad. Take a closer look you’ll see, typical mainstream Breslov Chasidim and Na-Nachs.
    Na-Nachs are to Breslov as Tsfatim are to Chabad. Don’t laugh at Na-Nachs. Take it as a warning! Ch’v! Zuhl der aibershter upheaten!

    There are a lot of comments asking about the gun. It’s a BB gun. It’s one that they sell for a few dollars in the shuk there, and it’s one of the biggest interest for younger kids in Uman. They’re harmless and the BB’s are plastic. They usually break within a few days and no one ends up taking them home. Isn’t it obvious though that it’s not real? Anyone should know this…
