Girls Paint Bikur Cholim Community Mural
This past Sunday, over one hundred 7th grade girls were treated to a tile painting activity in honor of the 1st Annual Bikur Cholim Month (the painting session for boys will take place on May 16th). Each of the students were given a tile to design and paint with a Bikur Cholim related design of their choice. When completed, the tiles will be mounted as a Bikur Cholim Community Mural on Kingston Ave, permanently installed on a visible outside wall.
The project, arranged by Bikur Cholim volunteer Sarit Kramer in collaboration with The Painted Pot, is a grand gesture of achdus and ahavas yisrael, as each 7th grade student from all of the schools, both boys’ and girls’, is represented by a handmade tile on the Wall Mural. This heartfelt artwork created by our children will be a reminder to passers-by of how all of our efforts joined together can make a difference.
Bikur Cholim Month is a community-wide campaign to promote awareness and involvement in the Mitzva of Bikur Cholim.
The month of Iyar, an acronym for “Ani Hashem Rofecha” – “I am Hashem Your Healer,” is the perfect opportunity for us to up our efforts on behalf of those in our community who are struggling with medical challenges.
Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to easing those challenges every day, is providing many opportunities this month for Crown Heights youth to get involved.
Other Bikur Cholim school programs to look out for in our schools this month are: challah baking and delivery to elderly in the neighborhood (Loaves of Love), decorating and distributing Refuah Shelaimah cards to hospitals, morning mother’s helpers who help get kids from Bed to Breakfast to Bus (BBB), building a Bikur Cholim float for the upcoming great parade, an exciting Art and Essay Competition for grades 8-12, and much more.
Participating schools include: Bnos Menachem, Bais Rivkah, Bais Chaya Mushka, Ohr Chana, Bnos Chomesh, Chovivei Torah, Oholei Torah, Lubavitch Yeshiva, Ohr Menachem, Darchei Menachem, Chanoch Lenaar and the Online Shluchim School!
May the energy and Achdus displayed this month bring us to the time when there will be no more illness.
