
MTA Proposes Fare Hike, Raising Price to $3 in 2026
Commuters may start paying $3 to ride subways and buses in January 2026, as announced in an MTA board meeting on Wednesday.
The new price would be a 10 cent increase from the current fare of $2.90. Riders who qualify for reduced fare could see an increase of $1.50 while express buses riders could pay $7.25, transit officials announced.
Along with a mass transit fare hike, the MTA has also proposed a 4.4% increase for LIRR and Metro-North tickets, according to the board meeting.
