Red Light Cameras Coming to 450 New NYC Intersections

Some 450 New York City intersections could get new red light cameras thanks to legislation recently signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The bill passed the New York legislature in June, and Hochul gave it the final go-ahead Wednesday. It allows New York City to install cameras at 600 intersections, an increase from 150, and extends the city’s camera enforcement program through 2027.

The locations for the new cameras have not yet been determined but will be chosen based on red light running data, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation.

  • Politicians best dreams

The cameras are loved by politicians, as they generate revenue without officially raising taxes. All they need to do is pass legislation, and they get money to spend. A private company is the beneficiary of all of this.
