20 Mile Per Hour Speed Limit For NYC? What Do You Think?

by CrownHeights.info

Crown Heights representative to New York State, Brian Cunningham, released a Twitter poll today asking if you support a 20 mile per hour speed limit as the State Senate approaches the possible passing of Sammy’s Law.

Sammy’s law, pushed in the State Senate by a grieving mother, would allow New York City to lower speed limits to 20 miles per hour. The decision may come before the State Senate adjourns for the year on June 8.

Proponents of the law point to higher speeds as one of the greatest factors behind fatal pedestrian deaths, and claim that reducing the speed limit would save lives.

Detractors of the law criticize it as a waste, since the city rarely enforces its existing 25 mile per hour speed limit already in place and claims that it will be used as a money grab to allow for additional ticketing by speed cameras.

“The city is ill-equipped to deal with additional mandates at this time,” noted Yosef Hershkop, a community activist and member of Community Board 9. “Its not like anyone is really enforcing the 25 mph so what’s the point of further legislation?”

So where do you stand on this matter? Have you voted?

  • Backwards

Why don’t they just require drivers to go backwards. It will synch with how the City is run.

  • And then...........

    It’s going to go to:
    15 MPH………..
    10 MPH………….
    5 MPH……….

    and then, in the end:

    NO driving allowed, at all!!!!!

  • Too Many Polls - Too Little Action

How about a Twitter poll about all the new homeless dumping coming to East Flatbush?
How about a Twitter poll about how there will be 1313 new units with only 57 parking spots.
How bout a Zoom Town Hall Meeting on what ACTION Attorney General Tish James, NYS Assemblyman Cunningham and NYS Sen Myrie are going to take on today’s housing, parking and driving issues -families need cars not Citibikes

  • No More Building Permits

I propose we stop all affordable housing construction because people die in construction accidents.
