The NYPD is taking steps to protect the city’s Jewish community from terrorism during the upcoming High Holidays.

Commissioner Ray Kelly said Wednesday that there is no reason to believe an attack is in the works, but they are stepping up police presence to be prepared, as they have in years past.

Extra officers will be on patrol in Jewish neighborhoods and around synagogues. The NYPD is also heightening community outreach and deploying special operation units.

“Some synagogues may receive unannounced visits from our Hercules teams. These are specially trained teams with heavily armed officers that you’ve seen deployed throughout the city in the last several years,” said Kelly.

Officials reiterate that anyone who sees anything suspicious should call the police.
