NYC Residents To See Approximate 22% Increase In Electricity Bills This Winter

by CrownHeights.info

Brace yourselves. Winter is coming in New York City, and that will mean an approximate 22% increase in electricity bills from last year.

Con Edison electric, which provides electricity to New York City, has announced the likely increase based on the rise in energy costs, mostly due to inflation.

While the jaw dropping 22% increase may make many sweat, Westchester residents have to swallow an even bigger pill, an approximate 27% increase on their bills.

Electricity is not the only bill that is expected to rise, with residential gas customers facing a 32% increase this winter.

With cash strapped families already reeling from the skyrocketing cost of food and other necessities, the government HEAP program might just be a lifesaver for many.

The Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP, can provide up to $976 this winter to help low- and middle-income households and senior citizens keep their homes warm and help defray high energy costs.

Applications for assistance are accepted at local departments of social services in person or by telephone, with funding provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents outside of New York City may also apply online for regular heating assistance benefits. New York City residents may download an application and obtain program information here.
