NYC Vaccine Mandate Woes Continue, 40 FDNY Ambulances Out of Service

Having a medical emergency? You might have to wait a bit.

According to a report by the New York Daily News, 40 FDNY ambulances sat unmanned Saturday as the vaccine mandate kicked in, bring record staffing shortages to the city.

Unsurprisingly, the shortage caused by those who refused the vaccine mandate were compounded by those who took the vaccine in the day before, and were therefore too sick to come in to work.

The Fire Commissioner had anticipated the situation, claiming in the days leading up that up to 20% of all the FDNY EMS fleet might be out of service.

As of Friday, the official tally of vaccinated EMT’s and Paramedics was at 81%, a number that is likely to rise.

The FDNY also found itself heavily understaffed on its fire suppression arm, with 26 fire stations reported as being closed.
