by CrownHeights.info
Want a plastic straw? Now you are going to have to ask for one.
A New York City law past this past spring is coming inti effect Monday, making it illegal for businesses to hand out plastic straws unless one was specifically requested.
The law, initially considered to be an outright ban, was adopted as a way of reducing trash, and also includes plastics such as stirrers an sticks.
For now, the law does not touch on plastic utensils such as spoons or forks, but proposals are presently making their way to the city council.
