New York City Mayor Declares State of Emergency As City Floods

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that he will be declaring a state of emergency in NYC tonight, as catastrophic rainfall has entire areas of the city underwater.
“I’m declaring a state of emergency in New York City tonight,” de Blasio tweeted. “We’re enduring an historic weather event tonight with record breaking rain across the city, brutal flooding and dangerous conditions on our roads.”
Water as deep as six feet was reported trapping drivers on the Belt Parkway with large swaths of other major highways and city blocks also underwater.
The rain was so intense that it backed up many city sewers, leading to backflow into homes. Street flooding also spilled into basements across the city.
