Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has claimed victory for the Democratic nomination in New York City’s mayoral race on Tuesday, after the Board of Elections published their updated data.

Adams beat Kathryn Garcia, Maya Wiley, Andrew Yang, Scott Stringer, Shaun Donovan, Dianne Morales and Ray McGuire, among others, in the democratic primary.

“While there are still some very small amounts of votes to be counted, the results are clear: an historic, diverse, five-borough coalition led by working-class New Yorkers has led us to victory in the Democratic primary for Mayor of New York City,” Adams said. “Now we must focus on winning in November so that we can deliver on the promise of this great city for those who are struggling, who are underserved, and who are committed to a safe, fair, affordable future for all New Yorkers.”

His closest race was with Kathryn Garcia, whom he beat out by a slim margin of just 8,426 votes.

The closeness of the race shows the power even small voting blocks have, with the combined voting power of Crown Heights and the Satmar community of Williamsburg having won Adams the Primary.
