Report: NYPD Commissioner Bratton to Resign
NYPD Commissioner William Bratton will announce today that he is resigning and will be replaced by Chief of Department James O’Neill, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
The resignation comes as a surprise, as Bratton was expected to stay on through next year’s mayoral election.
Bratton has twice served as New York City’s police commissioner, having previously held the position under former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He’s also been the Los Angeles police chief and the Boston police commissioner. He’s the only person who has led both the New York and Los Angeles police departments.
DAVE
he has done nothing to alleviate the crime in Crown Heights, he is weak and constrained by this terrible DINKINS talmid mayor we have.
Pedant
He was competent. He was hindered by the current piece of garbage in office. But he also has become overtly political.
There is no reason to believe his replacement will be any better and a lot of reason to believe he will be worse, if for no reason other than Bratton was, actually, capable of doing a good job, something that we cannot at all take for granted generally, and especially in our times.
But politics is the main issue, Bratton will run for something, sooner than later. Sadly, it’s one of the few growth industries left, it’s sickening what this country and the world at large has become. The government won’t ever be better than the electorate. Pokeman Go!
Question
Does this mean the end of the broken windows policy?
Pedant
It would mean that were that not ended long ago, so I guess that means yes, or, no, depending on your fancy.
