NYPD Officers Busted for Allegedly Smuggling Guns

NBC

Eight current and former NYPD officers and one New Jersey corrections officer have been arrested on charges that they were running a gun-smuggling ring that dealt weapons in New York City.

The officers arrested include five active-duty officers assigned to Brooklyn, three retired officers and one New Jersey corrections officer. They were picked up by FBI agents and NYPD Internal Affairs investigators early Tuesday.

Several of those arrested are also accused of illegally transporting other goods, including cigarettes and slot machines.

In all, 12 people are charged with federal conspiracy counts expected to be announced later Tuesday by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and FBI officials.

The alleged NYPD corruption arrests come as other officers could also be charged this week in a separate ticket-fixing investigation headed by the Bronx District Attorney’s office.

While they’re presumed innocent until proven guilty, if they are proven guilty they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Hey Bloomberg, You IDIOT! You going to take guns away from the Cops now! Give them whistles! A gun free New York. The only way to stop crime is to give law abiding citizens their rights to have weapons to protect their lives, their families and their property. Otherwise only the CRIMINALS (like these COPS) will have weapons making the law abiding citizen easy pray. Especially since the Supreme Court has ruled the “average citizen” DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPECT THE POLICE TO PROTECT THEM.
