1,100 Redlight Camera Scofflaws Cars Towed
New regulations allowing the cars of red-light scofflaws to be towed have resulted in more than 1,100 vehicles being hooked on the first day — more than double the daily average, The Post has learned.
In some areas, city marshals could barely keep up with the crushing workload.
Marshal Frank Siracusa said his troops seized 103 vehicles in Brooklyn on Monday, about twice the usual 50 to 60.
“This is a rude awakening,” he said. “Some people had four, five, six red-light summonses. They never got the message before they got towed.”
It’s a costly message. The tow charge is $185.
As The Post first reported, the Finance Department last month began counting unpaid red-light tickets toward the $350 threshold for overdue summonses that makes a vehicle eligible for towing.
Finance Commissioner David Frankel said 1,116 cars were scooped up as of 6 p.m., Monday, more than double the 507 daily average of last September, and 60 percent higher than the typical Monday average of 700.
“This is not a matter of revenue-raising,” declared Frankel. “It’s a matter of public safety.”
A silver lining?
At this rate there will soon be a lot of parking spaces in CH.
And another bonus will be if there are less cars on the street then the airbag stealers will have to find a new neighborhood to work in.
huh?
I dont get how they find your car.
You run a red last week, now this week the law says we can tow your car, well how do they know where you are? Lets say you are not at home.
This is how
The marshall drives up and down the street during the day and during the night finding cars and calls in the plate and location of the car to be towed.

The street camera snaps a picture of the vehicle running the red light. The license plate is clearly shown in the picture.
The ticket is mailed to the licensed owner of the vehicle, who is responsible to pay the ticket. If you are a victim of the lousy Crown Heights Mail service, good luck.
Thats Great.
to #2. — its not about being at home, its about your license plate that was captured when you ran the red. dont worry about how they find the car, worry that YOU should not run a red light — for the safety of everyone! This law is great.

The idea that you should top at red lights is good, but these cameras are DANGEROUS…drivers learn their locations, and then slam on their brakes if they think the light might turn yellow.
Many rear-end collisions are the result of these stupid cameras…they are just another way for the city to pick our pockets.

Beware…City tow trucks can damage the constant velocity (CV) joints on your car’s drive train…a very expensive repair if the rubber boots get torn while front wheel drive vehicles are towed, and the grease leaks out, and water and dirt get into the axle bearings…

Dear Huh?
Many cars come equipped from the factory with a GPS tracking system and a BLACK BOX recorder. This has been going on for over a decade now. Big Brother knows who you are and where your car is. Do you honestly think that those cameras at the intersections are merely to record traffic accidents? You’re being watched! Welcome to George Orwell’s Oceania!
Why most people continue to assume that America is a friend to the Jewish people is beyond me. Folks said the same thing about pre-WWII Berlin! If the threat of anti-Semitism doesn’t concern you, then the technology currently being used by Big Brother should!
Do a Google search for GPS and Black Box recorders in cars.
To Yossel
Only the experienced drivers -that know how to take a safe red-
only those drivers are alert enough to spot the camera.
The camera serves its purpose for all the 18 year old bochurim who borrow their parents cars and start running reds – it serves them as a warning before they crash, and lets their parents know how they drive.

Well, if you do own money, you’d better pay it or consider your automobile stolen.
My father had about $600 unpaid violations that the city never collected. Now the mayor comes along with a new way to satisfy his insatable appetite for money — take people’s cars, charge them $350 to gat them back PLUS the debt. It’s really sick I tell you. It’s not about safety as the Mr. Frankel said, it’s highway robbery.
