A 57-year-old Bronx bicyclist who careened after hitting an opening car door was struck and killed by a city bus Wednesday, officials said.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was jolted into the path of a southbound BX17 on Crotona Ave. just before 8:30 a.m.

“The bus was coming and the lady swerved to get out of the way of the car door,” said bus passenger Angel Otero, 48. “It happened so fast. Everybody got off the bus gasping and crying when they saw her.”

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the cyclist was already dead.

“It was too late to help her,” Otero said.

Police said woman’s bike smacked into the open door of a 2005 Toyota Camry. The impact shot the bike into the path of the bus.

Cops issued the unidentified driver of the Camry a summons, though it was not immediately clear why, police said.

The bus driver was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and treated for shock. He will be given a test for alcohol, which is routine, a spokesman for the New York City Transit Authority said.

Detectives were interviewing the Camry driver.

Residents said the victim rode her bike on Crotona Ave. every afternoon after shopping for groceries.

“She always had a kind word for me. She was a sweetheart,” said Manny Garcia. “She loved riding that bike. It made her happy.”
